Chris concentrates her law practice in general business and commercial matters, employment relations, automotive law and alternate dispute resolution. She advises and represents businesses on diverse topics such as consumer transactions, contracts, commercial real estate, information technology services, the government procurement process, business torts, employment relations and sale and acquisition of business assets. Chris also has a strong background in advising employers and preparing/providing training on preventative measures such as handbooks and policies, evaluations and job descriptions, discipline and discharge, drug testing policies, legal compliance and union issues. She is a certified mediator and trained collaborative professional.

Chris has served in leadership roles with the Leadville Lake County Chamber of Commerce and the Lake County Community Fund. Her current community service includes serving as President for Planned Pethood Leadville, as well as providing pro bono legal services to nonprofit organizations, including the Advocates of Lake County, the Leadville/Lake County Economic Development Corporation, and the Tabor Opera House Preservation Foundation.

Kathryn (“Katy”) Welter, Of Counsel

Katy Welter, Rocky Mountain General Counsel Colorado

Katy focuses on planning and problem-solving for small businesses and individuals. She routinely advises clients on Business Transactions, Commercial and Agricultural Leases, Commercial Contracts, Licensing and Permitting, Non-Profit Corporation Formation and Governance, and Buying and Selling of Businesses and Business Assets. She also counsels individuals on estate planning, including drafting Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and Healthcare Directives.

Katy also has experience with complex start-up efforts, including chartering a de novo national bank, obtaining federal licensure for an organic whiskey distillery, managing millions in grant funds for innovative programming, and converting hundreds of acres of conventionally farmed land into USDA organic certified cropland. She brings understanding of how to navigate highly bureaucratic industries, including banking, court systems, municipal government, and healthcare.

Katy is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy Studies, and DePauw University. She is admitted to practice in Colorado. Katy serves as Founding Chair for the Town of Buena Vista Historic Preservation Commission and is a Steering Committee member of Start-Up Colorado. She and her husband, Rick, own and operate Watershed, a community-focused shared space in Buena Vista, Colorado, where they live with their son, Henry.
